DStv DVB over IP
What is DVB over IP?
DVB stands for Digital Video Broadcasting. Over IP means over a computer network infrastructure : existing or new. Television signal can be carried over a network cable into a home/commercial organization provided they are ´wired up´. Currently South Africa does not have fibre to the home infrastructure so MultiChoice has developed a system for the hospitality industry, business applications and residential estates.
How does DVB over IP work?
The satellite broadcast signal is received via a centrally located satellite dish, converted to IP (via a DVB over IP head end) and then distributed to individual DStv IP decoders over a pre-installed IP distribution network
The DStv DVB over IP solution is not a DIY offering and full installation as well as the purchase of decoders, must be done via one of the DStv Accredited Solutions Integrators .
Ideally suited for?
The system can be installed in any organisation, hotel or gated community which has, or plans to have, an IP distribution network installed.

- The DVB over IP head end includes software that allows for the development of a customisable portal which can be used to create value added services for the end user. These services include:

- Support unencrypted Video on Demand

- Error alerts sent by email or SMS : identifying problematic decoders/channels. The system identifies any problems : not reliant on subscriber or guest feedback.

Equipment required for a typical DStv DVB over IP Installation
DStv´s DVB over IP solution allows commercial establishments to deliver a niche and personal experience to hotel guests, tenants and business customers. A typical DVB over IP installation includes:
- One centrally located 90cm dish and LNB
- A DVB over IP head end
- An IP distribution network
